Mexico Stocks End Higher On US Data, Euro Zone

Mexican stocks closed solidly higher Tuesday, as positive U.S. consumer confidence data and some hopeful signs coming out of the debt-laden euro zone helped ease risk fears.

The IPC index of the leading 35 shares rose 0.6% to 38021 points on volume of 225.5 million shares valued at 4.85 billion pesos ($377 million). The IPC closed 0.4% lower in the previous session.

Mexico’s peso broke a five-week winning streak on Friday after comments from the finance minister stoked speculation that the central bank will step up dollar purchases.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc and Nexen Inc. made a “significant” oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico, adding to finds in the area last year.
